How to Choose a Tennis Racquet

If you are just beginning to engage in tennis, one of the most important things you will have to learn is how to choose a tennis racquet that would suit your age, height, style of playing, experience, and strength. These are some of the most valuable factors that you need to consider when buying a racquet of your own. Keep in mind that choosing well is crucial since this will be the best tool or weapon that you can equip yourself with when you go out there to play or compete.

Naturally, when it comes to picking out your tennis racquet, the physical appearance is not enough. You cannot buy a racquet simply because it looks fashionable and would look amazing with your tennis outfit. If you do, you may end up with one that is not very durable or will be a challenge for you to play with. You may end up ruining your own game just because you did not have the proper gear.

Below are some of the things you will have to look into when you go shopping for a tennis racquet:

1. The Sweet Spot

Tennis players love what is known as ``the sweet spot``. This refers to the area in the strung surface of the racquet wherein you can make a great and powerful hit without much effort. This is why many beginners choose the ones with jumbo frames because these have larger sweet spots. For the pros, the mid-sized frames are preferred.

2. The Beam

When you go to a tennis store or a sports shop, it is best to ask about the beam of a tennis racquet. This is the area on either side of the head, which can add power to your moves. Having a wide beam can add strength to the trampoline effect of the strings.

3. The Grip

You should always try to do sample swings with the tennis racquet you are planning to buy, to see if the grip is good enough for you and if it is suitable for the way you hold the racquet. This is very important especially for beginners--- to find a tennis racquet with a nice grip. It should really feel comfortable in your hand.

4. The Size

Of course you will also have to consider the overall size that is fit for your age, height, and experience. Remember that longer racquets can provide added reach for the ball and extra power too. But then, these are usually harder to control or manipulate.

5. The Weight

Lastly, you should also take into account the lightness or heaviness of the tennis racquet. It should be just right for you, in order to allow you to make your swings and other moves easily. This factor is also essential to your eye-hand coordination.
